Listen to the Interview
Hello, and welcome to The Remote Podcast Episode 3. This podcast is all about location independence, digital nomadism, and living life on your terms.
Each week we interview a new guest on the show, and this week I sat down with Sami Ahmed, a recent graduate of the Experience Institute in Chicago, a 12-month higher education program based on building real-world experiences through apprenticeships, self-guided projects, meetups, and coaching. In the past year, Sami worked at companies in Hong Kong, Portugal, and Chicago.
A few words from Sami:
18 months ago, I made a huge transition from producing music to helping launch and scale new businesses. That decision was a career catalyst that propelled me into an alternative graduate program with Experience Institute. Over the course of 12 months, I embarked upon three apprenticeships around the world – from Business Development at a seed fund in Hong Kong, to Product Design with a startup in Portugal, to Quality Assurance for a venture studio in Chicago.
My year was loaded with lessons about building teams, sparking new client relationships, and making products that truly meet users’ needs. I now hope to continue working with the makers, creators, and visionaries – the people ushering change on a large scale through technology.
Message me if you’re looking for help to reach a new market or launch/test a new product or service. I’m also a fan of swapping travel/work stories over coffee (virtually or in-person). If you’re on twitter, say hello at @SamiAhmedBiz.
In this week’s episode, we talk about the experience of living and working in a foreign country and some of the rewards and challenges of this experience. We discuss Sami’s experience being homeschooled growing up, how he rejected a traditional MBA in favor of the Experience Institute and creating his own learning experiences through multiple internships and travel experiences abroad. He shares the lessons he’s learned through working in 3 countries during the past year.
